I think the producers betrayed that they were imagining a white audience, who might be shocked by what they heard, but who would not be personally hurt or damaged. The impact on the Black audience was not even considered. It’s abysmal that it was left in the broadcast, and I was stunned that Lindo told Vanity Fair that nobody from BAFTA came to talk to them about it afterward.

I get it, it’s an issue, and the tics force people to say shit that is the WORST. But holy hell alive, the BBC can edit out remarks about Palestine, and can’t bleep that shit? Not buying what they’re selling. Tourette’s may not be racist, but the guy with his finger on the button? I know what I think.

Some context was added from his Variety interview.

1) He had been ticcing all night (he ticced out p*d*ph*l* at a Alan Cummings) and these were edited out

2) It was announced in advance that someone with Tourettes was present and explained

3) He was 40 rows back from the stage and did not realise he could be heard until that moment, the BAFTAs had placed a mic nearby him which he questioned at the time.

4) He was told that his ticcs would be edited out of the broadcast.

5) He reached out to WB to apologise to Jordan, Lindo and Beachler directly.

6) WB reached out to the Baftas asked them to make sure that would be edited out for the broadcast

7) He left directly after this happened and watched the rest of the show in a private room because he realised the distress it was causing

With this in mind, The BAFTAs and BBC failed all involved horrifically. Seeing Jordan and Lindo experience that was a complete gut punch. Experiencing public humiliation like that is deeply hurtful regardless of whether this was intended. I also feel deeply sprry for Davidson who had what should have been a huge night for him turn into a legitimate safeguarding issue thanks to the BBCs and BAFTAs negligence. The official story from the BBC is that they didnt hear it because they were editing in a truck but thats not good enough. The BAFTAs announcement was also horrible, they should have said "those affected" because its not about offense but harm caused. They also failed to check on the actors following the incident which is indefensible.

BAFTA and BBC failed in their duty of care to everyone involved. They knew Mr Davidson's condition and placed him near some mics for good measure, amplifying his vulnerability. They should have briefed the host properly and prepared a thoughtful sample apology for the inevitable occurrence of a vulgar word being said at someone, which they then took the time to tailor before having him say it rather than it appearing slapdash (tip: no apology that has 'if you were offended' is ever going to land well.) There are people who do comms for a living, apologies and non-apologies are their stock in trade, and they could have worked with them in advance, and had them on standby because, again, this was a case of when not if. Then finally, they should have followed up with Lindo and Jordan, at the bare minimum, and used their *two hour* leisure time to do some editing. They just didn't care. Or they forgot that they actually were honouring black people for a change so they would.be visible and therefore likely to trigger a tic.

I dare him to walk around Brixton or Moss Side for a couple of hours.

This man has been beaten to an inch of his life with a metal pipe for ticcing. Its a dehabilitating condition he has no control over, its extroadinarily difficult for him to be in public at all.
