Rugs, cushions and lamps
I tell my sister I just bought a bed, and that it is a sturdy one, as though my past is littered with the splintered bones of weaker beds. (I mean, it could be. *sidelong look to camera three*)
It's a sturdy bed, but this is my gripe – they charged me more than $100 on top of the retail price to deliver and assemble it. I ask the nice lady ringing me up – and I make my voice as casual as possible, like I am rich enough that the balance on the screen has not winded me – what, exactly, would you deliver for free, if not a great big bed?
Some rugs, she says breezily. Cushions. Maybe lamps.
A ha, I say. And then I think about my bank balance forlornly. I am buying no lamps from this place, even if the delivery is free, I vow solemnly but silently.
